I've been pounding through maps solo all day today.
Anyone who doesn't know it, it's just time trials on (Mostly) fantasy styled tracks, where at times you can be playing against 100 people all at the same time, everyone trying to shave tenths or hundredths of a second off their time.

I used to play the original trackmania. At one point in time I made it into the world wide top 100 for the island theme. I have been holding off on tm2 simply because the individual updates for each theme take wayy to long and I think you need to purchase them separately.

Yeah, you do need to purchase them separately. I'm not sure what it was like in the original trackmania, but even just in canyon, there are a ton of maps available.

I have Trackmania Sunrise, never really played it much though. Should have more.

Original has a ton of stock tracks, it also has half a dozen different car types... Stadium, island, rally, bay, snow and coast. Further, there is an online market place ingame that will allow you to purchase car models/skins, and there is even a track editor so if you play online you can play your own track or any of tens of thousands of other tracks.

I have played almost all the Trackmanias aside from this one. What a strangely addicting series.

It is, canyon's the only one I've got so far, but I'm definitely going to purchase other ones when I'm done with it.

I used to play Nations a lot (because free). But the dev of the Mania games doesn't want to meet its players halfway and thus doesn't provide a user friendly launcher for their games, making them more of a choir to play than anything. A shame because the latest Trackmania looked great.

I don't really find the maniaplanet launcher that much of a hassle, it feels pretty simple and direct, at least when you've only got one game.

I have all the games, except TM2 Stadium and Valley. It's the only driving game my mother approves. She thinks I'll wreck cars on the street for kicks.

I don't play the Maniaplanet stuff but have seen it used. If you have multiple games, you have to launch them individually/select the game you want to play when launching the maniaplanet launcher.
That said the trackmanias are still superb arcade games. Shootmania though, well that's a nightmare for another time.
